I know what you are thinking. What do fall fashion, football, and sunscreen have in common? Well, that is why I am here to talk to you! I’m Chelsea, 25, and in my little town in Southwest Virginia, we love football. We plan our Saturday’s around the football schedule, we throw unforgettable tailgate parties, and we spend hours outside chanting, “Go Hokies!” We are dressed in our cutest brown boots, the most stylish Virginia Tech shirts, and we re-apply sunscreen once every two hours. That’s right. Even though the weather is cooler we still take the extra precaution to protect our largest organ, all while looking fabulous, of course!
If I had to pick one item for your make-up bag this fall, it would be sunscreen. I can’t tell you how many times I used to ignore the sunscreen bottle sitting on my counter because I thought I was safe. It wasn’t as warm out, it was kind-of overcast, why did I need sunscreen? Then I got diagnosed with stage III malignant melanoma and my life dramatically changed.
I know sunscreen is a bit of a pain so I have included a few of my favorite products for you to consider this fall. I’m absolutely in love with anything that already has sunscreen included! Let’s start with a moisturizer because we all know how our skin begins to flake with the colder temperatures. I love Garnier Nutritioniste, specifically their Moisture Rescue with SPF 15. It’s lightweight and easy on my sensitive skin.
Next, foundation. I am a girl who loves her some foundation! I swear by Bare Minerals, Original Foundation SPF 15. I am super pale skinned and I find it difficult to find a color that blends with my skin that does not completely wash me out. This is it. Plus, it already has SPF in it. Score!
Now, a girl needs some color to her cheeks and lips! I was recently introduced to a new line of Target’s called e.l.f. Studio. Not only am I a fan because they stress the need for sun safety, their prices also rock. I highly recommend their studio blush in Mellow Mauve. I find it to be comparable to NARS. Color to lips is definitely needed as well! Before I add the lipstick, I add this little gem: Mary Kay’s Lip Protector. It helps protect from the sun and from the wind!
As you prepare for your next tailgating party, think about your skin. I know the weather is cooler and you may believe that you are fully protected, but please take the extra precaution. Having been diagnosed with melanoma at such a young age, I learned that no tan is a healthy tan. Trust me, nothing about melanoma is fashionable. Protect yourself!
